FC, I haven't even opened the link but we're talking about the guitar solo at the end of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" during a George Harrison tribute show.
If so I remember it well. Thought at the time, oh no! But then my jaw dropped. Fucking amazing.
The whole song presentation was excellent.

Guthrie's dad was properly weird.
He used to walk everywhere with his lads and you could tell it would pain him to let them out of his sight.
He'd always be standing outside school ages before the last bell, normally with a guitar or three in cases.
Gave his boys guitars around the age of 3.
Guthrie's younger brother is fucking EPIC on the 4 stringer.
I don't think they were allowed any other toys.

I like banjos.
Banjos are like bacon. They make everything better than it was before.

Guthrie would need about 90 seconds practice to be a total master of that redneck hillbilly banjo shit.

I reckon Guthrie would be shit hot at that Spanish classical strumming shit as well if he put his mind to it and dedicated the six minutes of practice he'd need to master it.

I don't know much about playing guitar.
I can tell you this though.
Guthrie Govan can play any style. Impeccably. Total master of the instrument. Shred, rock, pop, indie, funk, punk, blues, rythmn and blues, death metal, jazz, be bop a fucking lula, jazz funk, soul, jazz soul, fucking anything you like. Total 6 string GOD. He is a freak.
He couldn't write a song for shit though.

For those who don't know him, I'd also recommend checking out John Petrucci. Here he is with Dream Theater on another of their epic tracks Octavarium.
For those not resilient enough to watch the whole 26+ minutes, just watch the last 2 mins or so which is all guitar solo but beautifully constructed and played.

And for all-out technical brilliance this by Guthrie Govan is on a different planet:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yPEewaalik
It's basically one long solo but in particular the part from 1:45 is very special.
But then I'm not sure you'd call it a "performance" as he's not really a showman like some of the others.

As Eggbert says, Jimmy Page in Song Remains the Same takes some beating. Favourite has to be the solo in Since I've Been Loving You (4:55 but the whole song builds up to it):

All the greats for me and usual suspects
One bloke I've got into is Lee Wrathe . He' works for Ibanez guitars as there ambassador. He really is the dogs bollocks. Very much like Satch and Vai.

Also. Paul Gilbert is the nuts.
